Media Room Storage Box

At the upcoming Fort Worth and Dallas Texas Home and Garden shows there’s been something fun added to the mix this season; it’s called the Family Team Build Planter Box. This is where five families get to build a large project and take it home afterwards. Space is limited for this workshop so get there early.

I’ve been having fun with this box concept not just outside but inside the home. I’ve changed up the design a little through the process because I wanted something that was a little stronger and easier to build for the workshop participants.

This box is great for planting but when I made another for inside the home, my mind grasped at the possible storage space ideas; this brings me to our media room. If you don’t have a media room, hold on because this same concept could be implemented to the family room, bedroom or office.

This project is just plain awesome because you can use it outdoors as well as indoors, let’s take a peak.

We begin with a simple plain box, wood was cut to size and everything was hammered together one step at a time. There are several building steps to this project and I’ll walk you through the process as you build at the show. You’ll end up with a box similar to this one.

I’m a bit of an organizing nut, so much that my husband has begged me to stop reorganizing things. I listened because it’s given me additional time to create fun projects like this one.

Look at all that space, this box is either screaming for dirt and plants or waiting for a nice place indoors to store the stuff that often clutters up space quickly, especially if you have kids in the house.

Because this particular box was used indoors I made sure to sand thoroughly inside and out, after wiping off the dust I finished with some dark stain. Wheels and handles were added next; you can purchase all these items at any large or small hardware store. Once the project is completed, it’s time to organize the media room.

We kept our media room very simple, I don’t like clutter and the last thing I wanted to do was collect a bunch of items that needed dusting. The question remained what to do with the additional movies, couch pillows and that stuff that seems necessary for a media room experience? It all went inside the box.

This style box doesn’t have a lid but you could easily add one turning this into a mobile storage popcorn station, also known as a coffee table. Having the wheels attached is perfect because you can move it wherever you want it to go. Did we solve your storage space needs today?

Bring your family to the THG show and come build the Family Team Build Box for your home or garden. Attendance is first come first serve to five families, Saturday only. Also Visit my Blog Garden Up Green next week as I’ll be sharing outdoor ideas, I’m loving planter boxes this summer!
